CLONAKILLA CANBERRA DISTRICT VIOGNIER 2008

Clonakilla is a small, family winery dedicated to making distinctive, handcrafted wines. Their wines are made in extremely limited quantities and can be very hard to find. However, we beleieve they're well worth the search and we're delighted to be able to offer the 2008 Viognier in limited quantities.

VINEYARD
John Kirk planted Viognier at Clonakilla in 1986 with a view to having a variety which would give the winery a point of difference.

Very few wineries had this variety at the time. Tim Kirk visited the Rhône Valley in 1991 and saw the potential of the variety at Condrieu and Côte Rôtie.

Since 1992, Clonakilla has been blending Viognier with Shiraz and released their first varietal Viognier in 1998.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Viognier

VINIFICATION
The 2008 Viognier was picked in mid-April, crushed, chilled and pumped straight to the press apart from one parcel which was whole bunch pressed.

It was fermented entirely in French oak using natural yeasts.

Before bottling, the wine was fined with bentonite.

TASTING NOTE
The 2007 Viognier is a full bodied white wine with potent honeysuckle, pear, ginger and apricot aromas. It shows the classic silky Viognier texture while retaining a tight structure and refreshing acidity.
