CHÂTEAU DE NAGES ROSÉ 2007
This rosé is very much how it should be! A brilliant colour, a powerful nose of crushed red fruits and an ample taste sustained by a finish that's lightly tart. It is a wine that I drink during meals with grilled fish, summer salads or even fresh goat cheese. It's sunshine by the glass!
VINEYARD
The Costières de Nîmes is found between the low rocky hills and garrigue that mark the border of the Languedoc with the Provence, and the low sandy plain of the Camargue the Rhône delta, the soil is mostly a mixture of round pebbles ("galets") similar to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and sandy alluvial deposit and red shale.
The soil depth from 3 to 15 metres is largely responsible for the variations of style within this AOC.
The climate is Mediterranean, similar to that of the Rhône valley, but is characterised by its proximity to the coast and the sea breezes.
GRAPE VARIETIES
70% Grenache Noir, 30% Syrah
VINIFICATION
The grapes were harvested mechanically at peak maturity. They then underwent skin contact for about 12 to 24 hours for extraction of colour and aromas before being pressed in a pneumatic press.
The wine the underwent temperature controlled fermentation at 14 - 16 °C for about 21 days before being aged on fine lees with
battonage
for about 8 weeks.
The wine was then filtered and bottled.
TASTING NOTE
The wine has an intense, brilliant rose petal appearance and an elegant nose of pomegranate and raspberry with notes of spice and flowers.
The palate is velvety and fresh. It then develops vivid fruit flavours and a crisp and subtle finish.
