CHATEAU POTENSAC 2002 - Medoc
This chateau is owed by the Delon family, who also own the very highly rated Chateau Leoville-Les Cases. A deep red colour, with restrained nose of black cherries, this a medium-bodied wine with some slight earthiness. This is classic claret and will drink well for the next 5 - 7 years.
VINEYARD
The vineyards of Potensac are located in Ordonnac, in Médoc. The vineyards are formed of alluvial gravel with some red clay
GRAPE VARIETIES
The vineyards are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon which accounts for about 60% of the vines, with approximately 25% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc in addition.
VINIFICATION
The wine undergoes a warm fermentation at a maximum temperature of 28ºC in stainless steels and concrete vats, with 15 to 18 days maceration and constant pumping over. It is then matured for around 16 months in 30% new oak barrels and some cast offs from Leoville Les Cases. Finally, it is egg-white fined and bottled without filtering - so it may throw some sediment.
TASTING NOTE
A deep red colour, with a restrained nose of black cherries and concentrated ripe black fruit flavoured palate with fine tannins. It displays considerable length on the palate with a firm structure underpinning the fruit. This is a medium-bodied classic claret and will drink well for the next 5 - 7 years.
