CHÂTEAU LA LAGUNE MADEMOISELLE L HAUT MÉDOC 2006
Chateau La Lagune is a 3eme Grand Cru Classe from the Haut Medoc, reknowned for its traditional style. Mademoiselle L is their third wine, made from young vines for a forward, modern, early-maturing style.
VINEYARD
It is the southernmost classed growth of all the Médoc and one of just five classed in the 1855 classification lying outside the main communes of St Estèphe, St Julien, Pauillac and Margaux.
The estate covers 80 hectares of vineyard planted on gravel slopes of which the best face North/South. The well-draining gravel comprises small white pebbles brought by the Garonne river during the Tertiary era.
The vineyards are planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot.
The mitigating effect of the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic mean the climate is mild and not too rainy.
Mademoiselle L is made from young, Cabernet and Merlot vines.
GRAPE VARIETIES
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot
VINIFICATION
The grapes were hand-picked and sorted three times before destemming and crushing. Each variety was fermented separately in temperature controlled, gravity fed stainless steel tanks.
Fermentation was short, and took place at low temperatures. It was followed by malolactic fermentation in tank. The wine aged for 12 months in one year old French oak
barriques
TASTING NOTE
Good depth of red-black colour with attractive perfumes of red and blackcurrant and an earthy, leathery note. On the palate, the intense cassis character of the Cabernet is fleshed out by the ripe, plummy Merlot which pads out the structure and gives a sweet fruit to the finish.
