CHÂTEAU LA LAGUNE HAUT-MÉDOC 2004 CHÂTEAU LA LAGUNE HAUT-MÉDOC 2004

Chateau La Lagune is the southernmost classed growth of all the Médoc and one of just five classed in the 1855 classification (it is classed as a Troisième Cru) which lie outside the main communes of St Estèphe, St Julien, Pauillac and Margaux. Given its status, it offers an excellent and great value source of quality Bordeaux with excellent structure, poise and balance.

VINEYARD
The La Lagune vineyard is c. 80 hectares of vineyards and is dominated by a single 57 ha block. The soils are a sandy-gravel mix at an altitude of c. 15 metres above sea-level

The vineyards are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot at a density of planted at 6500 vines/ha;

The grapes are harvested by hand at a yield of 40-45 hl/ha.

GRAPE VARIETIES
55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot

VINIFICATION
The grapes were harvested on the 24th September. The Merlot and Petit Verdot were fermented at 30 Celcius and the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc at 28 Celcius for between 3-4 weeks to achieve maximum fruit aromas and softer tannins.

The wine was then matured in c. 55% new French oak barrels for up to 18 months.

TASTING NOTE
The wine has a bright ruby red colour and a nose of rich fruit, structured oak and notes of fresh mint.

The palate has a generous attack with red fruit flavours, fine tannins and a streak of acidity balancing the spicy oak finish.
