| Sparkling ChardonnayStarting with fizz, Chardonnay adds elegance and finesse to Champagne and other similar sparkling wines, along with a streak of acidity. We have two great examples of Chardonnay only fizz:
Cloudy Bay Pelorus NV from the iconic producer in Marlborough, New Zealand
Nyetimber Première Cuveé 2000 from probably England's best sparkling wine producer and one which has won many awards and blind tasting against Champagne.
Don't forget that Chardonnay is usually a component of most sparkling wines including Champagne.
| Mineral ChardonnayWe then have the austere, minerally Chardonnays found in Chablis and some parts of the New World.
First and foremost here is Chablis and we have a basic version in the Laroche Chablis 2006 .
There are also some good examples and the Shaw & Smith Unoaked Chardonnay 2005 is a unique wine from Australia, showing great purity of fruit without the "mask" of oak.
| Ripe and Oaky ChardonnayWhich are followed by the classic, nutty, ripe styles found in the best Burgundies and New World Wines.
At the entry level, we have some great value wines being made in a New World style, but the Alpha Zeta Chardonnay 2006 is actually from Italy.
As a basic Burgundy the Boisset Bourgogne Chardonnay 2006 displays all the structure and complexity of a much more expensive wine.
Argentina are getting the style exactly right with their Catena Chardonnay 2006, a wine that offers great value for the price.
And finally, Australia pioneered this style in the New World and still produce some of the best, like Cullen "Kevin John" Margaret River Chardonnay 2005
