CHABLIS 1er CRU CHABLIS 1er CRU "LES BEAUROYS" MICHEL LAROCHE 2002

This wine, from Domaine Michel Laroche, is a Premier Cru wine from the Beauroy vineyard. Showing some signs of bottle age, this wine has taken on a rich and creamy texture along with the lovely refreshing green fruit that is the hallmark of Chablis, along with a little judicious oak to round the palate off nicely. And it's a bargain!

VINEYARD
"Le Bauroy" is a premier cru vineyard to the north west of the village of Chablis itself. It includes the seperate premier cru vineyards known as Troesmes and Côte de Savant.

Beauroy has a similar mineral structure as its neighbour Vaudevey, while producing wines that are a little softer and more delicate.

The soil in Chabis is formed of limestone, most specifically Kimmeridge limestone. The vines are generally trained as double Guyot.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Chardonnay

VINIFICATION
The fruit is pressed using a low pressure pneumatic press. The juice is then allowed to settle and clear for around 12 to 24 hours.

The wine was then fermented in a stainless steel tank at 15ºC to 18ºC, with a small amount (c. 7%) being fermented in 225 litre barrels, to give them a delicate oaking.

TASTING NOTE
The wine has a brilliant pale gold colour with an aromatic nose of cream, hazelnuts and a touch of oak. The palate is firm with hints of green apple and custard with a long and flinty finish.
