TENUTA CERRO DEL MASSO CHIANTI 2006 TENUTA CERRO DEL MASSO CHIANTI 2006

This wine, coming from the hills just outside of Empoli in Cerreto Guidi in Tuscany, displays great power and concentration and is rounded and full bodied on the palate. It makes a great, everyday Chianti at a very competitive price for this level of quality.

VINEYARD
The vineyards are situated on beautiful hills, some of them conche, or shell-shaped, facing south and southwest. They are planted primarily with Sangiovese, although Alberto is planting Merlot, as some of the sites have a high percentage of clay in the soil, so are particularly suited to Merlot. Cerreto Guidi is known for producing deep coloured, well-structured wines.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Sangiovese

VINIFICATION
2006 was an excellent vintage in this area, with good growing conditions right through the season. The grapes were picked in September and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats at 28 C with a short maceration period of 6-7 days. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine remained in tank until bottling. It is unoaked to maintain the freshness and youthful characteristics of the grape variety.

TASTING NOTE
Chianti from this area, half way between Florence and Pisa, have good depth and power and this is no exception. Deep coloured, with ripe, rounded fruit, full-bodied and juicy on the palate, with a spicy, blackberry note. Good length on the soft finish making it a perfect everyday drinking Chianti.
