CATENA CHARDONNAY 2006 CATENA CHARDONNAY 2006

This Chardonnay is a step up from the Alamos but it continues to show Catena's ability to produce top quality wines in Mendoza. The wine has classic tropical fruit aromas with some background green fruit and some lovely sweet spice. Half the price of a Burgundy of this quality, this wine offers great value for money.

VINEYARD
Again, the fruit for this wine was grown in 3 high-altitude vineyards in the foothills of the Andes:
La Piramide Vineyard, 940m elevation, offering rich pineapple, banana fruit flavors and aromas with a touch of sweet honey with a rich mouthfeel.
Domingo Vineyard, 1,100m elevation, lends notes of citrus fruit with floral notes and excellent acidity; and
Adrianna Vineyard, 1,500m elevation, contributes apple, pear and fig flavors with a strong mineral component and vibrant acidity.
The vines yield around 3.5 - 4 tons per acre and the havest is usually in March.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Chardonnay

VINIFICATION
The wine was fermented using natural yeast at a maximum fermermentation temperature of 19°C, for 35 days. 100% of the resulting wine was then matured, on its lees, for 9 months in French oak (40% of which is new).

TASTING NOTE
The wine shows a light yellow color with marked greenish tones. The aromas show tropical fruit flavors with touches of apple and pear as well as hints of cinnamon and minerals. The mouthfeel is full yet clean, with fresh, crisp acidity.
