CATENA ZAPATA ARGENTINO MALBEC 2006 CATENA ZAPATA ARGENTINO MALBEC 2006

We're getting pretty much to the top of the Catena tree here with this 100% Malbec wine sourced from both the high-altitude Nicasia and Adrianna vineyards. This is a big and robust wine, with loads of deep black fruit and a long and powerful finish. 96 points from Robert Parker.

VINEYARD
The Catena family has conducted extensive research into the soils and microclimates of Mendoza's high altitude wine country in the foothills of the Andes mountains.

The grapes for the Argentino Malbec were sourced from two high altitude vineyards:

Adrianna Vineyard, Gualtallary district 4,725' elevation
Nicasia Vineyard, Altamira district 3,870' elevation

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Malbec

VINIFICATION
The grapes from the two different vineyards were vinified separately:

From the Adrianna Vineyard the fermentation took place at a maximum temperature of 28° C with a total of 30 days maceration .

From the Nicasia Vineyard the fermentation took place at a maximum temperature of 30° C with a total of 29 days maceration.

The wines then spent 18 months in 100% new French oak before being blended and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

TASTING NOTE
Saturated dark violet in colour, with aromas of cassis, mocha and clove. A combination of density and sweetness, with gripping flavours of dark berries, tobacco, spices and minerals. A palate-staining finish dominated by sweet black fruit.
