CATENA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2005

Offering a riper and more structured wine than the Alamos, this Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep, dark colour and a nose of blackcurrant, tobacco and cedar. The rich palate has layers of black fruit, some coffee and a hint of mint. Lovely!

VINEYARD
The Catena family has conducted extensive research into the soils and microclimates of Mendoza's high altitude wine country in the foothills of the Andes mountains. At different altitudes, the family's Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards express a unique profile of aromas and flavors: the black currant and cassis fruit flavors and ripe, sweet tannins of the La Pirámide vineyard (3,100' elevation); the spicy aromatics and pepper notes of the Domingo vineyard (3,700' elevation); the finely grained tannins of the Altamira vineyard (3,870' elevation); the minerality and notes of eucalyptus of the Adrianna vineyard (5,000'). The blend of these components creates a wine of unique character that has balance, concentration and a strong varietal identity.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

VINIFICATION
The grapes were de-stemmed before undergoing a 14 day fermentation and subsequent 27 day maceration to ensure full extraction. The wine then spent 12 months in 80% French Oak, 30% new and 20% new American oak

TASTING NOTE
The 2004 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon presents a deep, dark violet color with reddish hues. The nose offers intense, focused aromas of ripe cassis and black currant fruit intertwined with notes of tobacco, cedar, and a touch of eucalyptus. The mouthfeel is full and concentrated with layers of rich black berry flavors and elements of frosted mint, espresso and graphite.
