CATENA ALTA CHARDONNAY 2005

This is a very limited volume wine, exhibiting the finest white wine making in Argentina. This full and rich Chardonnay has a nose of stone and tropical fruits with background toastiness. A full bodied palate with wonderful rich fruit flavours completes the picture. Wonderful!

VINEYARD
At almost 5,000 feet elevation in the Andean foothills, the Adrianna vineyard's pebble covered soils and cool climate are ideal for growing Chardonnay. The fruit from the Adrianna vineyard has a purity of flavours and a minerality that is particular to this vineyard and cannot be found anywhere else in Mendoza.

Catena Alta Chardonnay is made from a special lot, rows 5 through 38, of the Adrianna vineyard. This wine undergoes a demanding selection process in both the vineyard and the winery.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Chardonnay

VINIFICATION
The grapes were fermented in barrel at a maximum of 20oC for 45 days using natural yeasts. The wine was then allowed to undergo 100% malolactic fermentation before being aged sur lie in 50% new French oak for 12 months.

TASTING NOTE
The 2005 Catena Alta Chardonnay has a bright yellow - greenish colour. The nose offers white stone fruits with a touch of banana and mango, notes of sweet spice and pan grille. The body is full and rich, but with wonderful freshness, showing ripe pear and fig flavours with a light notes of tropical fruit, delicate floral tones. The finish is long and lingering with wonderful minerality and clean, crisp acidity.
