CHÂTEAU LA TOUR DE BERAUD - COSTIÈRES DE NÎMES 2010 CHÂTEAU LA TOUR DE BERAUD - COSTIÈRES DE NÎMES 2010

The maker of this wine, Francois Collard is one of the most gifted viticulteurs and wine makers in Costieres de Nimes. This wine is full of vibrant fruit, with a spicy peppery nose and soft subtle fruit on the palate with decent structure.

ONLY AVAILABLE IN UNSPLIT CASES OF 12

VINEYARD
The vineyards are located on the southern slopes of a large plateau surrounding the ancient fire tower and are around 10-40 years old.

The soil is a combination of sandstone, chalk and clay, with a high pebble content characteristic of the area. The sandstone prevents evaporation of water during the hot summer days, keeping the soils fresh and infusing the resulting wines with a minerality typical of the region.

The Rhône river, only a few miles away, brings much needed water to the vineyards and the Mistral wind ensures the grapes develop in a dry, mould-free, environment.

GRAPE VARIETIES
40% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 15% Marselan, 15% Carignan & Mourvèdre

VINIFICATION
After machine picking in early September, the grapes were vinified separately by parcel.

The final blend was made in February, and the resulting wine aged for 12 months, with 95% in concrete tank and 5% in French oak barrels.

TASTING NOTE
Ruby red in colour, with intense aromas of black fruit and a touch of spice. On the palate, it is full and silky with distinctive tannins and explosive aromas of violets, liquorice and ripe fruit. The Grenache in the blend provides fruitiness and roundness, the Syrah colour, structure and finesse, the Marselan - recently introduced in the area - gives ripe tannins, colour and tangy red fruit, while the Carignan and Mourvèdre add complexity and fruitiness.
