BROOKFORD COLOMBARD CHARDONNAY 2008

Another cracker from Cranswick Estate. This takes me back to the days when Australian wine had character and was really interesting and exciting, with bags of fruit at a great price. Be prepared for a wine that offers crisp citrus and stone fruit flavours, a lovely freshness and no oak. Perfect!

VINEYARD
These wines come from the Riverina region which has a viticultural history dating back to 1912. The Riverina occupies a tract of land centred around the city of Griffith in the heart of New South Wales.

Soils consist of sandy loam and gravel embedded in clay with a limestone sub-soil and lie at an elevation of 136 metres above sea level.

The region has an average rainfall of 406mm, spread evenly across the year; warm dry summers ensure that grapes ripen easily and night harvesting between February and April enables the aromatics and freshness of the grapes to be retained.

GRAPE VARIETIES
Colombard, Chardonnay

VINIFICATION
The juice is fermented in stainless steel under cool temperatures. Both varieties are fermented separately and without oak allowing the wine to exhibit its regional characteristics.

The wine is transferred off yeast lees post ferment in order to create a lean and fresh style of wine.

TASTING NOTE
This wine has deep almost opaque, crimson purple in colour with an alluring nose of deep black fruit and rich spice, but with a lovely violet lift, freshening the whole. The palate is dry with firm tannin structure blending well with the rich robust blackcurrant fruit flavours giving a soft but full flavoured wine. One for drinking and enjoying now.
