BONNY DOON VINEYARD LE CIGARE BLANC 2007

Le Cigare Blanc is the white sister of Le Cigare Volant, Randall Grahm's homage to the complex blended wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Since 2003, he has produced this wondrous blend of roussanne and grenache blanc. It is a rich, savory wine with greater power and extract than one typically finds at Bonny Doon. A single vineyard cuvée sure to lift your palate awareness to new heights.

VINEYARD
Dedicated to producing wines in a more unaffected, hands-off style, with a particular emphasis on the expression of terroir, or unique sense of place, Bonny Doon Vineyard created the 2007 Le Cigare Blanc from grapes derived exclusively from the Beeswax Vineyard in Arroyo Seco. Farmed in accordance with the principles and practices of Biodynamics, surrounded on three sides by wilderness and shielded from the cool Pacific Coast winds by the Santa Lucia Mountains, Beeswax Vineyard grows complex, concentrated and mineral intensive grapes, produced from deeply rooted vines.

64% Rousanne, 36% Grenache Blanc

VINIFICATION
The Roussanne and Grenache Blanc lots were cool fermented separately initially in tank, then transferred to barrel to complete.

Post fermentation bâtonnage was carried out over a six month period as the wine aged in neutral French oak barrels. Regular and careful stirring of the lees enhanced the palate and texture and the 50% malolactic fermentation further enhances the mouthfeel.

TASTING NOTE
The Bonny Doon Vineyards Le Cigare Blanc 2007 is pale gold in colour with green-gold highlights, rich aromas of beeswax, lavender, quince and cardamom lead to a mouthful of Asian pear, quince and wild fennel with a distinctive note of minerals on the mid-palate. Silky in texture and perfectly balanced, the 2007 Le Cigare Blanc has a long, savoury, satisfying finish. Its unique flavours will pair exceptionally well with fresh swordfish, lobster and roast turkey.
