BALNAVES COONAWARRA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2008 BALNAVES COONAWARRA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2008

Balnaves are recognised as one of the leading producers of Cabernet in Australia. This wine is a benchmark Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, showing all the depth, richness, complexity and well integrated oak that one would expect in a wine of this quality.

ONLY AVAILABLE IN UNSPLIT CASES OF 12

VINEYARD
Balnaves' 35 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are split up into sub blocks (some only 1 hectare in area), on the basis of soil type, clone variation, trellis type etc. This enables Balnaves to program different treatments for these smaller areas. Supplementary water can be supplied using a central computer system, but at least one third of the vineyard has not been watered for five years. The vines are trained on a single wire.

The Cabernet grapes for this wine were grown in the Walker, Dead Morris and Avery blocks.

GRAPE VARIETIES

VINIFICATION
During fermentation, 44% of the must was barrel fermented, while 23% had an extended maceration. The barrels were made by Saury, St Martin, Remond, Seguin Moreau and Taransaud. It was fined and bottled in March 200
