MEURSAULT DOMAINE ARNAUD ENTE 2005
Domaine Arnaud Ente is one of the hottest properties in Mersault today and arguably Burgundy's brightest rising star. This Meursault village wine, from a fantastic vintage, gives an insight into great white Burgundy without the substantial price-tag. The wine has classic Meursault aromas and flavours of lemon, lime, hazelnut and oatmeal along with a balancing freshness.
VINEYARD
Arnaud's aim is to do the best possible job from the vineyards he has available to him. He currently exploits 4 hectares in the village of Meursault.
The village wine is grown on mixture of marl and chalk soils which is perfectly suited to the production of chardonnay.
GRAPE VARIEITIES
100% Chardonnay
VINIFICATION
Large 600 litre barrels are used for some of this
regular
Meursault cuvée. The rest is vinified and matured in normal barrels for the first year, without much emphasis on new oak.
With the thoughtfulness for which Arnaud is known, the percentage of new wood barrels used for his top wines has dropped from 35% to 20% and a variety of different barrel types are now used to increase the complexity of the final wines
TASTING NOTE
The wine has classic Meursault aromas and flavours of lemon, lime, hazelnut and oatmeal.
It is rich and lively; hints at dried fruits yet remains fresh. The wine has good structure and comes across as a minerally and less fruity than many vintages. The finish is still youthfully firm and persistent.
